It borders the following poviats: Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Prudnik, Opole and Strzelce Opolskie.

Area: 442 km2.
Number of inhabitants: c.a. 70 000, an average density of population 167 persons per 1 km2.
Communication: The region has a convenient access. Two important communication tracks cross there: A4 highway, joining West Europe with Ukraine and Russia with two exits - in Dąbrówka and Gogolin and the national way No. 45 (Opole-Racibórz) from north to south, running along with the way No. 409 (Strzelce Opolskie - Prudnik) to the border check-points with the Czech Republic. The good quality of connections also gets out of the railway arterial road Berlin - Wroclaw - Kraków. National and foreign air- connections from the airfield in Kamień Śląski will be initiated soon.
The economy of Poviat is mostly based on natural resources, that is to say on deposits of calcareous stone in the area of Gogolin and Górażdże and on resources of aggregates for building industry, such as: sand, gravel and clay situated in the river-basin of the Odra River. Because of that the cement- calcareous and building industries have developed there. The coke and paper industries, shoes production and agriculture are also meaningful for the economy. . The development of the last one indicated, is possible thanks to relatively good quality of soil, mild weather condition and the high level of farming culture. In last years, new branches of industry appeared: printing and plastic.
History of Poviat: it counts already almost 50 years and reaches 1956, whenas first after World War II administration reform was introduced. Then, within Opolskie voivodeship - the Poviat of Krapkowice was established. Its range covered the present administrative composition of the communes. Thus, it worked until July 1975, whenas poviats were liquidated. Only in times of the constitutional transformation by virtue of the Law dated 07 August 1998, whenas in Poland poviats were created (an intermediate administrative link between a commune and a voivodeship), for the second time from 01 January 1999 the Poviat of Krapkowice has started to function. Its administrative range covers 5 above-mentioned communes along with the village of Januszkowice that was included into the commune of Zdzieszowice in 1976. Except 3 towns, 47 villages create it.

The Poviat of Krapkowice is the smallest of 12 in the Opolskie Voivodeship. But the only one, wherein as much as 3 villages were nominated in the prestigious International Competition the European Prize of the Renovation of Village (Kamień Śląski - 2000, Brożec - 2002 and Żyrowa- 2004). Three Villages are winners of the laurel of the most beautiful Opolskie Village (Żyrowa - 2002, the Kamień Śląski - 2004, Pietna-2005), while the commune Krapkowice possesses the following titles: Fair Play Commune (2003 and 2004) and the Best Commune in a ranking of the Association of Polish Poviats (2004).
Bearing in mind natural environment, natural and historic-cultural assets of the Poviat of Krapkowice our region creates the splendid potential, to animate tourism there.
